Placemaking film with London Borough of Barking & Dagenham
Barking and Dagenham is one of London’s youngest and fastest-changing boroughs, yet public perception hasn’t always kept pace with its reality.
To launch the borough’s ‘It Starts Here’ placemaking campaign, the council commissioned a hero film designed to capture the energy, ambition and momentum shaping the borough today.
The film needed to do two things at once:
build civic pride among residents, while signalling confidence and opportunity to investors, partners and prospective residents.
A place powered by people
Real renewal in the borough has always come from within its communities - from the young people growing up here, the families building futures here, and the businesses and creators choosing to build something here.
So rather than imposing a story onto the borough, we worked to capture it from the inside out - placing residents, everyday moments and real local spaces at the centre of the narrative.
The result is a portrait of a place defined not by reputation, but by lived experience, resilience and collective ambition.
A Borough in Motion
The film was designed to feel alive and forward-moving, mirroring the energy of a borough constantly evolving.
Through continuous camera movement, dynamic framing and fast-paced editing, the story unfolds through everyday momentum - people walking, travelling, learning, creating and building their futures.
Tracking shots, handheld moments and seamless transitions carry the viewer through neighbourhoods, parks, high streets and emerging cultural spaces, connecting places and people in a single flow.
The result is a confident portrait of a borough defined not by what it once was, but by what it’s becoming.
